Our opening sequence follows a formulaic structure. It has stereotypical characters and follows the norm in a horror movie.
 Following the norm, the victim is female and gets killed in the end, also the killer is male and is the more powerful character as he takes charge of the situation and is the one that kills the female. 
If we wanted to subvert our opening sequence we would have made the victim a male and the killer a female.
